David R. Soares – President & CEO

Mr. Soares educated in London, England has over 23 years experience in finance and real estate investment in both the international and domestic arenas.  Mr. Soares has been domiciled in the USA since 1984 and since that time has been primarily involved in real estate finance, investment and risk management.  Since 1996 he has originated in excess of $1.8 billion dollars of real estate finance in the form of short-term debt, construction loans, permanent mortgages, mezzanine debt or equity financing.  Mr. Soares has successfully performed all aspects of due diligence procedures, underwriting and closings related to real estate transactions and finance. 

As CEO of BCF, Mr. Soares overseas and is responsible for all aspects of company operations & marketing efforts. Mr. Soares is responsible for overseeing the BCF’s business pipeline, marketing efforts, overall quality control, working with existing investors, developing new investors, developing new loan programs and selling various credit traunches of originated loans or pools of loans.
Mr. Soares speaks regularly at various commercial real estate conferences nationwide and is on the Advisory Board for Sovereign Bank, NY (a US publicly traded, commercial bank) and sits on the Board of Directors for several local and national charities.


Scott W. Holcombe – Managing Director

Mr. Holcombe has over 30 years of experience in commercial real estate lending and investment advisory services.  Half of his career has been as a real estate lender and half as a commercial real estate acquisition specialist either as a principal or as an advisor. 

Mr. Holcombe has financed more than $1 billion worth of projects and has extensive experience both as a construction lender in senior management (Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase Bank) and in commercial mortgage-backed securitization senior management (GE Capital Real Estate and Merrill Lynch). He was involved in the underwriting of large construction loans and permanent mortgages in all asset classes and property types over a 20 year period which experienced drastic changes in the US economy, interest rates and market liquidity.  He was responsible for staff of between two and eight seasoned underwriters and originators as well as his own high profile book of business.

Mr. Holcombe has also directly or indirectly acquired more than $500 million of properties as an acquisition executive and/or real estate investment advisor with Jones Lang LaSalle and Credit Agricole Indosuez.  In this arena he was responsible for all areas of sourcing, sizing and structuring transactions, as well as deal due diligence and execution.

Mr. Holcombe has an undergraduate degree from Beloit College in Wisconsin, an MBA from the Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, and has been involved with NYU’s Real Estate Institute as a student and as a professor.  He also was a carrier fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy for five years.  Mr. Holcombe sits on the Board of Trustees of several non-profit organizations.


Thomas J. D'Angelo - Senior Vice-President, Marketing

Mr. D'Angelo has over thirty years experience in the banking industry holding various senior management positions with a Wall Street Bank   and a 35 billion dollar   S&P financial institution. Mr. D'Angelo has extensive experience in Retail/Commercial banking including, commercial loan underwriting, business development, supervising and training management and commercial l loan officers. Mr. D’Angelo supervised a commercial lending team in the Metropolitan area for 25 years, lending to small and mid-size companies accountable for an estimated $2 billion+ in commercial loan production.  During this time Mr. D’Angelo designed and established business development programs for banks with an emphasis toward developing relationships with CPA's, attorney's and business leaders.  

As a member of the Economic Development Council of Essex County ( EDC ), Mr., D’Angelo is responsible for reviewing and assisting in financing loan request throughout the Essex County, New Jersey area.

Mr. D'Angelo is on the New Jersey Advisory Committee of Sovereign Bank and sits on the Board of Directors of several local charities. In 2003, Mr. D'Angelo was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Council on Volunteerism and Community Service and recently in 2006 was named to the Executive Council. In 2001, Mr. D'Angelo was named President and CEO of Charitable Emporium, an internet company that specializes in raising funds for 501 (c) (3) Non- Profits.

Mr. D'Angelo’s role as Senior Vice President, Marketing, is to oversee originations, corporate development and administration, and manage Berkshire’s sales force.


James McCarthy – Senior Vice President, Chief Underwriter

Mr. McCarthy has over 20 years experience in real estate lending, investment, and portfolio management.  Mr. McCarthy has been involved as a lender, investment manager, or financial/work-out consultant in over $3 billion of real estate transactions. While with The Guardian Life Insurance Company, Mr. McCarthy substantially re-established the Real Estate Investment Group including hiring staffing; establishing internal underwriting standards, procedures, and documentation; portfolio and loan management; establishing a national origination network; and increased the portfolio from $200 million to approximately $1 billion in two years.  Mr. McCarthy served as an underwriting consultant to Paine Webber Real Estate Securities in establishing a real estate conduit.  His involvement included formulating underwriting standards, procedures and manuals; generating rating agencies tapes and data management; and preparation of data and presentation for agency review and B-buyers.  Mr. McCarthy has also consulted to CIBC Real Estate Capital Markets on conduit, floating loan, and construction underwriting.
Mr. McCarthy’s role as Chief Underwriter will be to oversee quality control, loan processing, loan underwriting & investor relations. Mr. McCarthy will primarily be responsible to get loan applications closed from the time Berkshire receives application deposits.
